The tour begins at Caribeans Coffee Shop, where guests meet the guide and take a short hike through the cacao forest. Along the trail, participants learn about the history of cacao and chocolate, the harvesting process, and sustainable farming practices. The forest is also home to various wildlife, offering opportunities for spotting local fauna.
The hike leads to a scenic ocean-view location, where fermenting and drying cacao is explained, highlighting how value is added to the raw cacao pods. As a micro-batch, single-origin chocolate maker, the farm produces fine chocolate directly from its own trees.
After understanding the tree-to-bean process, the tour moves to a mini chocolate factory, where the bean-to-bar process is demonstrated. Guests enjoy a chocolate tasting experience comparable to a wine tasting, including a sampling of a traditional Aztec chocolate drink and additional tastings featuring various flavor inclusions. With plenty of chocolate to savor, this tour is a delightful and educational experience for chocolate lovers.
Length of Tour: The tour is approximately 2 hours, starting and ending at CariBeans. CariBeans does NOT provide transportation. Guests should arrive 15 minutes before the tour to sign up and be ready.
Level of Tour: The hike is medium level. It starts with a small hill but is a slow hike, stopping and talking along the way. There is seating at the factory and chocolate tasting.
What to Bring: Wear closed-toed shoes if possible, and do not wear flip-flops. Bug repellant and drinking water are recommended. However, we sell bottled water and provide drinking water upon arrival at the factory.
